In December 2012, Elite Plastics received its AS9100C Quality System certification. Last month, Elite Plastics successfully underwent its first surveillance audit since receiving certification. AS9100 certification verifies that our Quality Management Systems (QMS) meets the requirements of the international quality standard established for the Aerospace industry.

AS9100C is based on ISO 9001:2008; the international quality system certification which is held by all of GM Nameplate’s US divisions and is recognized worldwide. AS9100C has additional requirements for customers specifically in the Aerospace industry. However, Elite Plastics applies the higher quality requirements of AS9100 to all our customers across all the industries we serve.

“We are pleased to have succeeded in our first surveillance audit since attaining AS9100C certification last year,” says GMN’s Corporate Quality Director, Martin Espinola. “We sought AS9100 certification for our plastics division, [Elite Plastics,] in order to better serve our long time aerospace customers.”

Over the years Elite Plastics has maintained its ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Certification, and as of last year AS9100C registration. The ISO registration is the industry quality system standard, while AS9100C registration has additional standards, specifically developed to better serve the aerospace industry. The certification brings many benefits to Elite Plastics customers, whether they require the certification or not.

Improved product reliability – Whether through extensive testing or design, having a documented, reviewed and certified quality systems, result greater reliability.

Better process control and flow – Strict change control and manufacturing standards, help created consistency and perfection in the manufacturing process.

Better documentation of process – The manufacturing process is document clearly and monitored. This makes a difference in preventing errors from happening and remedying the error when it does occur.

Greater employee quality awareness – More responsibility amongst those manufacturing the parts, helping to create and encourage a culture of high quality among the team manufacturing the part.

Reductions in product scrap, rework and rejections – Fewer errors and defects results in less waste. Creating a savings for Elite Plastics and customers.

Elite Plastics was audited by TUV Reinland whom approves the AS9100C certificatiGM Nameplate announced today that their Oregon division, Elite Plastics, now meets the requirements of AS9100C.   

Elite Plastics was audited by TUV Reinland of North America, whom approved the certification on December 11, 2012.  It states that Elite Plastics has established and applies a quality management system for the manufacture of complex plastics and value added assemblies. 

Elite Plastics has worked to meet all compliance requirements in their organizational structure, documentation, training, quality systems, technology control plans and procedures.  A commitment to compliance ensures that Elite Plastics has the knowledge, ability and regulatory oversight to properly manage aerospace programs.

AS9100C is the quality management systems standard for the aerospace industry and it compliments others held by Elite Plastics including ISO 9100:2008 certification and ITAR compliance.

“We began the process to become AS9100C certified a year ago because we saw an opportunity to better serve the aerospace industry and improve our manufacturing system,” stated Dan Thurmond, president of the Oregon Division.  “We already observe stringent quality standards because we supply highly regulated industries such as medical and automotive.  AS9100C certification for the aerospace industry was a natural next step. It demonstrates our commitment to quality.”
